Minutes of Baldwin Hills ARC Meeting 8/6/97 The eighth 1997 meeting of the Baldwin Hills Amateur Radio Club was called to order by the President, Greg, KD6AIS, at 7:40 PM on August sixth. Also in attendance were Robert, KF6CHA, the Vice-President; Hugh, NV6H, the Secretary; Ed, WA6MDJ, Chairman of the Board of Directors; and David, N6HGJ, our talented Membership Chairman/ Treasurer. Old Business: There was no old business. New Business: 1. The Secretary read the July minutes. These were accepted, with corrections. Ed, WA6MDJ, reported that our repeaters are now healthy, though 440 on Mt. Harvard will need some tower work. Further, he intends to have a hospitality suite at the upcoming ARRL SW Division Convention in Riverside Sept. 12-14. There was a discussion on the floor. During the course of this, the Treasurer reported our balance to be $536.45, much of which will be needed for the Christmas party. It was then MOVED that $100 should be put aside for the suite itself, and that members can donate or buy food. The motion PASSED. The Secretary then gave his ARRL report, noting that FCC intended to open Gate 3 for General Class licensees to obtain vanity callsigns. A question was asked from the floor, whether the W6AM museum at the old Rhombic Farm was still a 'go,' and it was decided that it is, but fund raising is slow. The President thanked meeting attendees, and mentioned the upcoming beach clean-up event. Deiter noted from the floor, that we might want to check out a booth near the pier. This led to a lengthy discussion of why BARC seems to be shrinking, and what can be done to increase the membership. A number of ideas were advanced, including more activity on the repeaters, re-creating a local core of active members, more contact with new hams, busier nets, and a revitalized Public Events Committee. It was MOVED from the floor that a new introductory membership be created, costing $10 for 3 months, to bring in a few bucks from those who can't decide whether to commit for a year. This motion PASSED. Finally, the President put out the flyers to be judged, and one was picked. It will be copied at Kinko's and put out in the usual places. With this the meeting adjourned at 8:52 PM, until September 3rd. Submitted for approval this 3rd day of September, 1997 by Hugh Stegman NV6H, Secretary
