Minutes of Baldwin Hills ARC Meeting 2/5/97 The second 1997 meeting of the Baldwin Hills Amateur Radio Club was called to order by the President, Greg, KD6AIS, at 7:40 PM on February fifth. Also in attendance were Ed, KD6LT, the outgoing Vice- President; Robert, KF6CHA, the Vice-President-Elect; Hugh, NV6H, the Secretary; and Ed, WA6MDJ, Chairman of the Board of Directors. I. New Business 1. The 1997 officers were officially installed. The President thanked the outgoing Vice-President. (Applause.) 2. Ed, KD6LT, took the moment to speak on his term, and about some hoaxes going around The Internet. These are the good old Good Times and Deyenda e-mail warnings, for e-mail viruses that do not and cannot exist. They get people alarmed, but in fact the messages are themselves a sort of paranoia virus, and all they do is take up disk space and bandwidth when we relay them everywhere. 3. The Secretary read the minutes. These were accepted and will appear on the Web page. 4. The Secretary, acting as representative to the ARRL, noted that the League board had held its annual winter meeting, and decided to ask for member input on some rather sweeping changes to the U.S. amateur licensing system. These are in March QST. 5. Ed, WA6MDJ, noted that the 440 MHz repeater is still down. 6. There was a brief discussion on Hugh's continued acting as ARRL representative, and it was decided that the President would write Fried Heyn asking that Hugh do it for two more years. Hugh has already e-mailed Fried on his own. 7. The President read a notice from ARRL, that the video tapes, some of which are pretty good basic information for club programs, are now for sale rather than rental. It was MOVED from the floor that the Club purchase the entire set. The motion was SECONDED and it CARRIED. 8. The President discussed the need for a new LAACARC representative, and it was decided that Ed, KD6LT would give it a try. II. Old Business 1. The matter of membership cards, or their non-existence, was again discussed, and it was decided that new ones would be printed up along with the next Club business cards. Since then, the Secretary has learned that Teri has apparently printed these, and that they only need to be cut up and distributed. After this, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38 PM until March 5, 1977. Members watched a most interesting video from N6KIB showing a new comm van, and we partook of Samir's usual excellent refreshments. Submitted for approval this 5th day of March, 1997 by Hugh Stegman NV6H, Secretary
