The tenth 1998 meeting of the Baldwin Hills Amateur Radio Club was called to order by the President, Ed, KD6LT, at 1939 on November 4. Also in attendance were Ed, N6EW, Chairman of the Board; Dieter, KD6LVW, the Vice-President; Hugh, NV6H, the Secretary; and David, N6HGJ, our dedicated Membership Chairman/Treasurer.

1. The Secretary read his way cool minutes, which were accepted as read.
2. Acting in his capacitly as ARRL Representative, the Secretary noted that the ARRL had modified its licensing proposal to more resemble that of the FCC.
3. The Vice-President announced that the Southern California Repeater & Remote Base Assn. (the beloved SCRRBA) is considering a 20-kHz band plan for 440.
4. The Chairman related the sad tale of 2-meter Santiago, which used to have an 8-bay antenna, but at meeting time had a 4-bay, the fate of the other half, and its feedlines, being quite unknown. In happier news, Harvard was back up, and the member autopatch would cost 50 per cent less in 1999.
5. The Christmas party will again be at Bruno's, at 6 PM on December 12, with the same great food and way-kool prizes, yes, including radios.

1. The President announced the night's featured speaker, David Carsilian, WA6TWF, owner of the "Super System" of 22 (count 'em 22) repeaters. He talked about which radios he liked and didn't like, and how to control them by computer. This is a great way to get new hams up and going. One file transfer and they're in business. He also has a class upstairs from Jun's in how to use your radio.
2. After this, the speaker showed some very impressive slides of various engineering jobs he and/or his friends had done on remotely controlled HF radios and VHF/UHF repeaters, including what has to be the ultimate solution to the problem of DXing in the city. It's a remotely controlled flame thrower out on the desert, operated from Newport Beach by a virtual transceiver on a computer screen. One paltry megabuck gets you one too.
