Minutes
of Baldwin Hills ARC Meeting 8/5/98
The seventh 1998 meeting of the Baldwin
Hills Amateur Radio Club was called to order by the President, Ed, KD6LT,
at 1946 on August 5. Also in attendance were Ed, N6EW, Chairman of
the Board; Hugh, NV6H,
the Secretary; and David, N6HGJ, our dedicated Membership Chairman/Treasurer.
I. Old Business
- The Secretary read his way cool minutes,
which were accepted as read.
- The Treasurer reported that the Club had
$603 in its account. There was one 2-year renewal, and one new membership
with family. The room has been paid for the rest of the year.
- The Secretary, acting in his capacity of
ARRL representative, reminded everyone of the 1998 SW Division Convention
in San Diego. Also, he read the minute from the League board meeting that
put the wheels in motion to petition FCC for amateur license restructuring.
Provided this goes through, which it probably will, there will be four
grades, A through D, and the fastest code element will be 12 WPM.
- The President, acting as LAACARC rep, reported
on the LA Area Council of Amateur Radio Clubs meeting. ARRL is looking
for radio coach volunteers to Elmer kids who express interest in school.
TASMA is redoing its database (which needs it), and moving APRS to 144.390.
We still need people to write Congress in support of the Amateur Spectrum
Preservation Act.
II. New Business
- Greg, KD6AIS, showed us his new commercial
radio, which looks and performs more like a PCS phone. Apparently, Nextel
is buying up all the mom 'n' pop repeaters and giving everyone radiotelephones
with lots of features - for a price! (I have seen these Nextel things
all over town.)
With this, we thanked Samir for his typically
great refreshments, and stood ADJOURNED at 2018, until September 2, 1998.
Submitted for approval this 2nd
day of September, 1998
